Tamrookum Church There are beautiful destinations for a lazy weekend drive in all directions over southeast Queensland. Community Arts and Information Centres, like the one in Beaudesert, are great starting points for suggestions on where to make impromptu stops.
In Beaudesert itself, the historic Beaudesert Hotel has been serving great pub grub since 1885, and opposite the hotel you'll find the "Pathway of Pioneers" Mural. The story goes that it was made by local potters and displayed in the Civic Centre to celebrate the Bicentenary. The artwork was packed away for many years during a refurbishment but only last year it was given a new lease on life and relocated outside.
Heading on the leisurely half hour drive from Beaudesert to Rathdowney, day trippers will come across a lovely example of a country church that is worth straying from the path to visit. All Saints at Tamrookum was built privately in 1915 as a memorial to the late Robert Collins; a pioneer pastoralist who was also regarded as the Father of the national parks movement in Queensland.
Visits inside are by appointment but regular services are held on the third Sunday of the month.
