Oxley Creek Common Oxley Creek Common is a large natural wetland that can be accessed from Sherwood Road at Rocklea. It is set up with a lovely picnic area, and is known locally as a haven for birdlife.
Professor Hugh Possingham has made note of more than 180 species of birds living on the Common and he often leads Sunday morning walks with fellow birding enthusiasts.
Contact: He and his team have compiled a comprehensive checklist and general ornithological information that can be found at: www.uq.edu.au/spatialecology/birds-oxleycreekcommon
The Friends of Oxley Common is a group that works hard to protect the site from development and members are always looking for volunteers to help out. They have arranged for Professor Possingham to hold a free bird watching session departing at 8am on Sunday August 15, 2010, and there will be time afterwards for visitors to learn more about the worth of the common.
