Mixing Cultures

Mixing Cultures signage

Beautiful Queensland produce and the spices of Sri Lanka meet in Vivienne Abeywardena's book "Mixing Cultures".

Mixing Cultures kitchen

Vivienne grew up on a tea plantation in Sri Lanka, where she first learned to cook at the age of nine using a simple cookbook her mother had written for her. After moving to South East Queensland she fell in love with local ingredients and found she could transform them into a taste of home with Sri Lankan spices.

Dining

This cookbook is written with beginners in mind, so none of the recipes are too challenging. An essential ingredient for many of the dishes is Sri Lankan curry powder, which Vivienne makes herself. Both the recipe book and the curry powder are available online or from the Vivienne's Cottage outlet in Stanthorpe.
