BCF Sandy Strait Flathead The Great Sandy Strait is probably best known for being the expanse of water separating Fraser Island from the mainland. It also happens to be one of Queensland's best marine sanctuaries.
There's an abundance of fish in the area and young Terry Van Oirschot knows a thing or two about where to catch them. Flatheads are predators, and are generally caught where there are steep drop-offs as they lie in the sand before striking.
Flathead are an excellent eating fish and can be found in plenty of areas around Rainbow Beach where we found them. Drop in to your local BCF outlet and they can fit you out with all the gear you'll need for a fishing adventure in the Great Sandy Strait.
