While marine theft is by no means at epidemic level, it is a real threat, with Club Marine processing claims for 105 stolen vessels in the past 18 months. Most losses were of trailerable boats or personal water craft.
There are several products on the market that should deter thieves. You can pick up a Jarvis Marine Outboard Motor Lock, an Ark Trailer Lock, or a simple Ark hitch pin lock from your local BCF store.
A more high tech solution is to spray DataDot DNA on your vessel, engine and trailer. It's a film of tiny dots that each carry your personal identification number, and that can be traced back to you when viewed under a black light.
